“The mournful cooing of the Mourning Dove is one of our most familiar bird sounds. From southern Canada to central Mexico, this is one of our most common birds, often abundant in open country and along roadsides. European settlement of the continent, with its opening of the forest, probably helped this species to increase. It also helps itself, by breeding prolifically: in warm climates, Mourning Doves may raise up to six broods per year, more than any other native bird.” To read more click here

That’s a beautiful picture of such a sweet bird. I have them out back all the time, and they appreciate birdseed I put on the ground. Their cooing is such a soothing peaceful sound.

Thank you! I always here them in the morning and I agree the sound is very peaceful and soothing. To me, they have a zen feeling about them.

Look how pretty Jackie. We have a pair on our porch who have two lovely babies that last week flew for the first time. Great shot!

They are! I love the “mourning” call it makes.

I see our collared doves and wood pigeons a lot. They just “coo” which is pretty boring really 😉 I would love to get a glimpse of the rare turtle dove! Smaller than our other natives but closer in colour to your mourning dove. They’re notoriously shy as well as being rare!

I would love to see a turtle dove too but I’m not sure they are in my area.

We have many mourning doves near our home and I hear them every morning! 🙂

It’s the same here! Some of my earliest memories from childhood are hearing mourning doves early in the morning. 😀
