Day 98: Coneflower

“Coneflowers are herbaceous plants that belong to the daisy family. They are native to the eastern and central parts of North America. There are nine species and from 60 to 100 varieties of coneflowers that can be found around the world today. The Latin name of the genus coneflowers is “Echinacea”. It originates from the Latin word “echinos” which means “sea urchin”. Name refers to the spiny cone of the flower head.” (To read more about these flowers click here)

    • Thanks so much! I get my photos of them from my neighbors garden which seems to always have flowers in various stages of blooming during the summer months. 🙂
