Day 24: Flowers in Spring

Crocus vernus (Spring Crocus, Giant Crocus) is a species in Family Iridaceae, native to the Alps, the Pyrenees, and the Balkans. Its cultivars and those of Crocus flavus (Dutch Crocus) are used as ornamental plants. The Dutch Crocusses are larger than the other cultivated crocus species (e.g., Crocus chrysanthus). Depending on the year, Crocus vernus starts flowering about the same time or up to 2 weeks after Crocus chrysanthus (Snow Crocus) starts flowering.” (Source: Wikipedia)

  1. A little late commenting but I just saw this. A totally exquisite photo. Purple is my fave color anyway but the delicate patterning on the petals you captured so well is what caught my eye. The contrast with the orange and green is perfect…. once again Mother Nature outdoes herself.

    • Thank you very much, Gerard! Just remember what Hal Borland (American author and journalist) said: “No winter last forever; no spring skips it’s turn.” 🙂
