Day 20: Health Food

“The heart-shaped silhouette of the strawberry is the first clue that this fruit is good for you. These potent little packages protect your heart, increase HDL (good) cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and guard against cancer. Packed with vitamins, fiber, and particularly high levels of antioxidants known as polyphenols, strawberries are a sodium-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food. They are among the top 20 fruits in antioxidant capacity and are a good source of manganese and potassium. Just one serving – about eight strawberries – provides more vitamin C than an orange.” (Source)

  1. Beautiful food that’s also good for you, and you make them look really good Jackie. I have some cut up for supper. But the best ones are the ones we grow locally in the summer, mmm. Ripened on the plant.

    • Thank you, Nancy! That’s what I love about the market I shop at – they have a lot of locally grown and organic produce. And during the warmer months there is a local farm that sets up a stand every Wednesday with fresh veggies and fruit. It’s awesome! Good prices too. 🙂
