“…birds provide people with a deeper connection to nature and to all living things. That’s something we all seek and all need. Some people think that there’s an actual innate need for that. E. O. Wilson talks about a concept called Biophilia, the innate emotional affiliation of human beings to other living organisms. It’s a really deep need. And in this day and age we need it even more, because a lot of modern life involves disconnecting from nature, having stressful lives in which we surround ourselves with technology.” –Lillian Stokes (Pictured: Black-capped Chickadee. The reference site has let me know, for the first time !, just why “my little chickadee” was a phrase connoting cuteness ! 😀
Lovely pic, Jackie !

Now that chap there would do my bidding if I asked him. He’s got a vicious streak.

I don’t know about that, Professor! That’s a pretty harsh accusation you throw at this little bird. And aren’t you assuming a lot in thinking a wild bird would be your lackey?

*laughs* You could be right. He might refuse. See, if I was a bird…I think I’d look like that.

But you would be too small for your top hat or would you have a smaller one made?

I think I’d have to have a smaller one made, for sure.

There’s no denying it is one, if not THE cutest little bird I have ever seen!! I’ve never seen or even heard of a Chickadee before, so thank you for introducing me!! It does have a very piercing voice too for such a small creature. An amazing capture, considering they are so ‘flitful’, for the want of a better word 🙂

Thank you so much! They really are adorable – and loud. lol ‘flitful’ is a great way to put it seeing as that is exactly what they do. 😀

OMG!!! I went from making the comment on your sight to checking out a new person who’d liked something on my site and you’ll never guess what I saw…..

WOW! What a cool coincidence. With the bird you spotted in the your backyard that makes 3 new birds that you were introduced to in less than a month – or is it longer?

ALL in under a week in fact!! It kind of highlights to me how we all know so little of everything….we each may know quite a bit about a subject, but there is also soooo much we can never get around to learning on our own! Which is why I so enjoy you posts, you introduce subject matter, that I don’t or wouldn’t know 😀 as well as revelling at your amazing photography skills every day now you have returned!!! Thank you so much for taking time to share your interest and talent with us all Jackie! xx

Very well put! I’m so glad you feel that way about my posts. I want to share the things I see as if others were right next to me looking at whatever I’m photographing and I think the more you know about things the more interesting they become. 🙂

I definitely get the feeling I’m sharing the moment with you during your posts! Sometimes I think people forget they can carry on learning their whole life, becoming wrapped up in every day living and survival..often, I’m sure, many think once they leave the required level of education…that part is all over….but, what a revelation they must feel when they realise there is so much more out there!

That’s good to hear! I agree that you never stop learning. I can’t imagine being so closed minded as to never have learned any more after leaving school.

That’s probably because I wasn’t blogging for awhile and closed down the other blog. I’m back and have been for a little while but it’s taking me a few to reconnect with other bloggers so I’m also really glad you found me! 😀

So many people are not connected to nature any more and that’s a great quote. Also what a good shot of one of my favorite birds. They are around here all year round and come to my feeder to eat seeds and suet. Such a tiny little thing, and so pretty.

Thank you, Nancy! They are the cutest birds but boy are they hard to shoot. They are here, there, and everywhere in no time at all! I got lucky to be there with my camera when this one decided to perch in one place for 1 or 2 minutes. 🙂

They do flit around a lot. The don’t stay on my feeder long either. I guess they’re shy and afraid, being so small. You were there at the right time!
